Description

This soft and golden heart shaped French toast is an easy Valentine’s Day breakfast made with simple ingredients. Perfect for cozy mornings, brunch boards, or a sweet Valentine’s Day aesthetic without extra effort.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 thick slices of brioche or sandwich bread

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1/2 cup whole milk (or 3/4 cup for richer custard)

  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

  • A pinch of salt

  • 1 tbsp butter (for cooking)

  • 1 tsp oil (for cooking)

Instructions

  • Use a 3–3.5 inch cookie cutter to cut heart shapes from the slices of bread.

  • In a shallow dish, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.

  • Dip each heart-shaped bread piece into the custard for 10–15 seconds per side, allowing it to soak without collapsing.

  • Preheat a nonstick skillet over medium heat (325–350°F) and add the butter and oil.

  • Cook the bread hearts for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through.

  • Keep cooked French toast warm in a 200°F oven while finishing the remaining batches.

  • Serve warm with fresh berries, powdered sugar, and maple syrup. For a brunch board, add whipped mascarpone and mixed fruit.

Notes

  • Thick bread works best to prevent sogginess.

  • Avoid over-soaking the bread to maintain clean heart shapes.
