Ingredients
For the Pretzel Crust
-
2 cups pretzel crumbs (crushed pretzels)
-
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
-
1/4 cup granulated sugar
For the Caramel Layer
-
1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
-
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
For the Creamy Topping
-
1 cup heavy cream
-
1/2 cup powdered sugar
-
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
-
Prepare the Pretzel Crust
In a medium bowl, combine pretzel crumbs, melted butter, and granulated sugar.
Mix until the crumbs are evenly coated.
Press the mixture firmly into the bottom of a greased 9×9-inch baking dish to create an even crust. -
Layer the Caramel
Pour the caramel sauce over the crust and spread it evenly with a spatula.
Sprinkle sea salt over the caramel layer for a balanced sweet–salty flavor.
If the caramel is too thick, warm slightly to improve spreadability. -
Make the Whipped Topping
In a large mixing bowl, whip heavy cream until soft peaks form.
Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla extract.
Continue whipping until stiff peaks form and the topping is fluffy and smooth. -
Assemble the Bars
Spread the whipped cream topping over the caramel layer in an even layer.
Smooth the surface using a rubber spatula for a clean, polished finish. -
Chill
Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
Longer chilling produces cleaner slices and better texture.
-
Slice and Serve
Remove from the refrigerator and cut into squares.
Serve chilled for the creamiest, crunchiest texture.
Notes
-
-
Gluten-free pretzels work perfectly for a gluten-free version.
-
For a richer flavor, swirl peanut butter into the caramel layer.
-
Add mini pretzels or chocolate drizzle on top for extra crunch.
-
Store-bought caramel is convenient, but homemade caramel improves depth of flavor.
-
The bars slice more cleanly when chilled overnight.
