Description
Mongolian Ground Beef is a fast, stovetop dinner made with lean ground beef simmered in a savory-sweet soy and hoisin sauce. It’s a simple Asian-inspired meal that comes together quickly and works well for busy weeknights when you need something reliable and flavorful.
Ingredients
-
1 lb. lean ground beef
-
2 tsp minced ginger
-
3 cloves garlic, minced
-
1/2 cup low sodium soy sauce
-
1/4 cup brown sugar
-
3 tbsp hoisin sauce
-
1/4 cup water
-
2 tbsp cornstarch
-
1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
-
1/4 tsp black pepper
-
4 green onions, cut into 2 inch pieces
Instructions
-
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef, minced ginger, and minced garlic. Cook, breaking up the beef, until fully browned and cooked through.
-
Drain any excess fat from the skillet and return the pan to the stovetop.
-
In a small bowl, combine the soy sauce, brown sugar, and hoisin sauce. Stir until blended.
-
Pour the sauce mixture into the cooked ground beef and cook for 2–3 minutes, stirring to combine and warm the sauce.
-
In a separate small bowl, whisk together the water and cornstarch until smooth.
-
Pour the cornstarch mixture into the skillet and stir continuously until the sauce thickens and coats the beef evenly.
-
Season with red pepper flakes and black pepper. Add the green onions and stir briefly.
-
Remove from heat and serve hot over rice or noodles.
Notes
-
Stir constantly after adding the cornstarch slurry, as the sauce thickens quickly.
-
Adjust the red pepper flakes to control heat level.
-
Leftovers store well in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
-
Reheat gently with a small splash of water if the sauce thickens too much.
