Description

Crispy, buttery, and perfectly cheesy Hawaiian roll melts you can make in minutes. These pull-apart grilled cheese bites are perfect for quick lunches, snacks, or fun party appetizers.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 Hawaiian rolls (kept attached)

  • 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

  • Optional add-ins:

    • Thinly sliced tomatoes

    • Crispy cooked bacon

    • Jalapeño

Instructions

Slice the Hawaiian rolls horizontally as a single block, keeping the rolls attached but creating a top and bottom layer.

  • Preheat a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Spread butter generously on the cut sides of the rolls.

  • Place the bottom layer of the rolls onto the skillet and sprinkle the cheese evenly across the entire surface.

  • Add optional fillings like tomatoes or bacon under the cheese to help them stay in place.

Close with the top layer and gently press down with a spatula.

Cook 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown and crisp, and the cheese is fully melted.

Remove from heat, rest 1 minute, slice or pull apart, and serve warm.

Notes

  • Do not separate the rolls individually before grilling — this helps the cheese melt evenly and reduces mess.

  • Cover the skillet briefly if the cheese needs more time to melt.

  • Freshly shredded cheese melts better than pre-shredded.

  • BBQ Chicken Melt: Add shredded BBQ chicken and red onion.

  • Bacon & Ranch: Add bacon bits and a light spread of ranch.

  • Garlic Herb: Mix garlic powder and parsley into the butter before grilling.

  • Pepper Jack Kick: Swap cheddar for pepper jack and add jalapeños.
