Description

This slow cooker chicken and gravy is a comforting, no-fuss dinner made with tender chicken breasts simmered in a rich, creamy gravy. It’s an easy meal that works perfectly for busy days and makes excellent leftovers.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups water

  • 2 packets chicken gravy mix

  • 1 1/4 cup condensed cream of chicken soup (don’t dilute before measuring)

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika

  • 1/4 teaspoon coarse ground black pepper

  • 3 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 1 pound)

  • 1/2 cup sour cream

Instructions

  1. Season the chicken breasts on both sides with garlic powder, paprika, kosher salt, and coarse ground black pepper.

  2. In the slow cooker, whisk together the water, chicken gravy packets, and condensed cream of chicken soup until smooth and well combined.

  3. Add the seasoned chicken breasts to the slow cooker and flip them to coat both sides evenly in the gravy mixture.

  4. Cover and cook on low for 4–5 hours, until the chicken is tender and fully cooked.

  5. Carefully remove the chicken from the slow cooker and shred or cut it as desired.

  6. Whisk the sour cream into the gravy in the slow cooker until smooth.

  7. Serve the chicken topped with the creamy gravy.

Notes

  • Whisk the gravy base thoroughly to avoid lumps.

  • Add the sour cream only at the end to keep the gravy smooth and creamy.

  • The gravy will thicken slightly as it rests.
