These chocolate waffles are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside with a rich chocolate aroma. Made with simple ingredients, they’re an easy option for Valentine’s Day brunch, a cozy breakfast, or a sweet weekend treat served warm with your favorite toppings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar

  • 2 teaspoons baking powder

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • ¼ teaspoon salt

  • 1 ½ cups whole milk

  • ½ cup melted unsalted butter

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

For serving (optional):

  • chocolate syrup

  • whipped cream

  • sliced strawberries

  • fresh mint leaves

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

  • In another large mixing bowl, whisk together the whole milk, melted unsalted butter, eggs, and pure vanilla extract until smooth.

  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and whisk until just combined, avoiding overmixing.

  • Preheat the waffle maker according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

  • Cook the waffles in batches, following the manufacturer’s directions, until cooked through and crisp on the outside.

  • Serve warm with chocolate syrup, whipped cream, sliced strawberries, fresh mint leaves, or your preferred toppings.

Notes

  • Mix the batter just until combined to keep the waffles light and fluffy.

  • Allow the waffle maker to fully preheat for best texture.
